Hollywood Kung Fu Superstar Jackie Chan: "We dare to jump off buildings that others wouldn't."

Jackie Chan, born on April 7, 1954, in Hong Kong, is a Hong Kong actor, director, action choreographer, producer, screenwriter, and singer. In 1978, he pioneered the Jackie Chan kung fu comedy genre. In 1986, he directed and starred in "Police Story," which won the Best Film award at the 5th Hong Kong Film Awards. In 1998, "Rush Hour" cemented his status as a top Hollywood actor. In 2012, he was named the greatest action star of all time by The New York Times. In 2016, he received an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement.

Family Life:

Jackie Chan's father, Fang Daolong, was originally from Wuhu City. In 1947, he moved to Hong Kong for work, leaving behind his wife and two sons, Fang Shide and Fang Shisheng. His wife passed away the following year. After arriving in Hong Kong, Fang Daolong changed his name to Chen Zhiping and remarried, having a son named Chen Gangsheng, who later entered the entertainment industry and adopted the name Jackie Chan. Fang Daolong passed away in 2008.

Jackie Chan's childhood was marked by poverty, and he was almost sold by his father. As a child, he was mischievous and often got into fights. He dropped out of school after completing first grade. At the age of six, his parents sent him to learn Peking opera under the tutelage of Yu Jim-yuen, where he adopted the stage name Yuen Lou. He and his fellow students, including Sammo Hung (Yuen Lung) and Yuen Biao, formed a performance group known as the Seven Little Fortunes.

Path to Stardom:

Jackie Chan once said, "We dare to jump off buildings others wouldn't. To survive, we played dead bodies, got burned, and followed our senior brothers to look for work every morning at 6 AM."

Despite what seemed like a hopeless career in the film industry, Jackie Chan had different ideas. While many stuntmen silently endured the hardships, Jackie started to study camera angles, action control, and scene coordination, gradually realizing that there was a lot to learn about filmmaking.

In 1985, Jackie Chan established his own film production company. His "Police Story" series expanded the horizons of kung fu films, earning him the Best Actor award at the Golden Horse Awards. These films marked the beginning of his daring stunts, featuring high-risk actions that constantly pushed the limits of the human body. This set the stage for his breakthrough in Hollywood with "Rumble in the Bronx" and eventually "Rush Hour," which solidified his status as a top Hollywood action star.

In 1998, Jackie Chan starred in the action film "Rush Hour." The film's final box office in North America reached $140 million, ranking 7th in the North American annual box office. This movie not only put Jackie Chan on the cover of Time magazine but also cemented his position as a top Hollywood action star. In 1999, he won the Best Action Choreography award at the 18th Hong Kong Film Awards for "Who Am I."

In 2002, Jackie Chan starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jason Isaacs in the action film "The Tuxedo," playing a taxi driver named Jimmy. In October of the same year, he left his mark on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That year, he also ranked 16th on The Hollywood Reporter's list of the most powerful people in Hollywood.

In 2004, Jackie Chan starred in the Hollywood comedy "Around the World in 80 Days," playing the thief Passepartout. That same year, he returned to the Chinese film industry, starring in the action drama "New Police Story," playing the legendary cop Chan Kwok-wing.

Marriage and Personal Life:

In September 1979, Jackie Chan met and fell in love with Teresa Teng in Los Angeles, but they broke up due to personality differences. In 1981, Jackie Chan was introduced to Taiwanese actress Joan Lin by Charlie Chin. They fell in love, and in 1982, they secretly married in the United States. That same year, Joan Lin gave birth to their son, Jaycee Chan.

In just five years, Jackie Chan revolutionized action choreography, character design, and thematic expression, gradually developing his signature performance style and genre. His daring stunts created numerous classic action scenes that remain unmatched. Today, Jackie Chan has become a cultural icon representing China.
